Event Details

I'd love to have you join me at my home studio for a day of hand-quilting and quilt binding. No experience required.

1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
We'll start by discussing hand quilting with Japanese sashiko thread. I usually hand quilt all my pieces and I'll show you the thread and needles I prefer. I'll also provide some material for you to practice with and demonstrate a variety of techniques.

3:00 - 3:30 p.m.
We'll take a short break and snack.

3:30 - 5:30 p.m.
The last half of the day we'll focus on binding a quilt. (This is the outer edge of fabric that frames a finished quilt.) I get lots of questions about finishing quilts and I'll show you how I do it. Again I'll provide material to try on (feel free to bring an unifinished quilt you have).

6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Stick around and try some of my husband's BBQ and mingle with other guests. Please RSVP to the BBQ so we can plan accordingly.

All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own thimbles, fabric, or unifinished quilt to try binding on.

Also, it would be great if you could bring your own sewing machine (I like to use it in the first step of binding.) If you don't have one or can't bring it, that's fine.

We might be outside and the temperature in May typically varies from 66°F to 83°F and is rarely below 55°F or above 91°F.

I'm hosting a natural dyeing workshop on Saturday as well as a free BBQ cookout after this class.

Traveling to Austin
If you'll be flying to Austin for a workshop, you'll need to rent a car. Austin public transportation is a little lacking and our home is 30 miles outside the city center.

For lodging, Austin has a large selection of AirBnB rooms. Also, there's no shortage of botique hotels if your budget allows (Austin MotelHotel San JoseHeywood Hotel, etc ).

If you're interested in coordinating with other attendees on transportation or lodging send me an email at and I'll connect you with others who do the same.

Thanks to Kathy Cadigan for the photo above.
