Description

El Futuro + Le Park

December 15, 2017

El Futuro

2014, Luis López Carrasco, 16mm to digital, 67m

A group of young people dance and drink at a house. The atmosphere is festive and cheerful. Socialist victory in the general elections of 1982 seems recent. The night is full of euphoria and celebration. The attempt of coup d’etat made in 1981 appears to be quite far away. We could say that in Spain, in 1982, everything was future. However, the future also looks closer at enormous speed, like a black hole that devours everything in its path.

Le Park

2015, Randa Maroufi, Digital, 14m

A slow meandering camera in an abandoned amusement park in the heart of Casablanca. On one hand, the film draws a portrait of the youth who frequent this place. On another, it exposes snapshots of their life, meticulously reframed and often inspired by images found on social networks. Desire to question different points of view and to multiply the possibilities: politically charged moments, danger frozen in time, instants before acting out...between immediacy and illusion, audience observes “something about to happen” and is invited to accept an experience of duration.

Folds of Existence

Programmed by Lorenzo Gattorna and Mary Ancel

A screening series of contemporary moving image that mediates the precarious boundaries between public space and personal psyche. Ranging from the meditative and transcendent to the cacophonous and debaucherous, these layered realities attempt to reclaim timeworn ideologies, made manifest via social network dynamics, contested geopolitical histories, formulaic mass entertainment, ecstatic virtual imaginings and oscillating collective projections. This powerful compilation of works challenges the currency and potentiality of events, and points towards alternative aesthetics and modes of existence. The programs presented include short-form, feature-length, single-channel and installation-based works.
