Bio: Founded in 2015 by Matt Holbein and Emily Brooks, The Foliage Library promotes environmental and botanical education through illustrated geometric folding books, with content that relates conceptually to their forms. Incorporating elements of art, geometry, and engineering, the very structures of the books present a learning opportunity. Seeing how basic shapes move and fold in space makes the brain more apt to understand how two-dimensional shapes relate to the physical world. The unique interactive design of the books also makes them fun to read as a group; a radial structure is great for children and adults alike to practice turn taking, discuss what they are learning, and build observation skills. These books are meant to be shared with your friends and family!

Matt and Emily began their collaborative book-making adventure during their senior year at RIT, both graduating in 2014 with BFAs in Illustration. Their process is truly collaborative, as they build off of each others ideas at every step in the process. Emily lives in upstate NY and wishes she could attend this workshop.
