Event description
A creative approach to writing for research and public engagement. Sessions 4 -5 will focus on creating a '3 Minute Thesis' as blog or talk

About this Event

'Focus On Your Writing' - is a writers group for Healthcare Scientists which has been running at Great Ormond Street Hospital since June.

A project supported by the Royal Literary Fund to promote effective Healthcare Science writing. From a trial funded by NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at GOSH to explore innovative approaches to public engagement with research.

Led by Nicola Baldwin, playwright, and Royal Literary Fund Fellow, with Dr Elaine Cloutman-Green, Lead Healthcare Scientist at GOSH.

Sessions 1-3 used creative approaches for honing written argument and structure, looking at writing challenges such as: research papers, report writing, lab reports, patient history, articles, blogs, patient engagement, creative non-fiction.

Sessions 4 - 5 will focus on participants writing their own '3 Minute Theses'. How can you present your work effectively for different audiences? How do you present your science and your enthusiasm? What do we mean by public engagement? How do you want your Healthcare Science writing to work for you?

The aim is to write short presentations which you will have the option of recording or filming in November and December.

Meet in GOSH reception from 17.00.

Workshop 17.30-20.00. Workshops are free.

Priority to HCS from GOSH, but other HCS and other GOSH staff welcome to apply.
