Event description

Description

The Fairbanks North Star Borough invites the public to attend the 2nd Clear the Air: Home Heating forum & Expo.

In April 2017, the EPA officially re-classified the Fairbanks North Star Borough from "moderate" to "serious" nonattainment area for fine particulate matter. The State of Alaska is required to submit a serious air quality plan for Fairbanks by December 31, 2017. The state and the borough are working on a plan to mitigate this designation with technical assistance and support from the EPA. In an effort to help educate local residents, the Borough Administration will host it's 2nd Clear the Air: Home Heating Forum & Expo event on September 22-23, 2017 at the Wedgewood Resort Hotel. There is no cost to attend this event, however pre-registration is required.

This two day event will feature:

  • Air quality experts from EPA, Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, FNSB Air Quality Program and some out of town guest speakers from communities who have worked through this issue.

  • Public forum/lectures with time for Q & A.

  • Wood burning demonstrations along with information from local wood burning/EPA approved appliance vendors, wood sellers and health information vendors.

  • Door prizes and Food!

More information including the event agenda will be added as it becomes available and will be updated here, on the FNSB and Air Quality Department's website and on FNSB social media.

If you are a wood sales vendor or if you sell EPA approved home heating devices and you are interested in participating as a vendor, please contact Lanien Livingston, Borough Public Information Officer at 459-1304 or by email: llivingston@fnsb.us.
