Event description

Description

Scotty’s Cove Conservation Area was purchased through a partnership with Florida Communities Trust in January 2002. Scotty's Cove provides an official canoe/kayak stop on the Shingle Creek Paddling Trail. The site of a former 80-slip marina and restaurant is now the launching point for water-borne fun and adventure. The site hosts iconic flora and fauna such as a mesic oak flatwoods, a bald cypress stand and fresh water marsh wetlands that are home for osprey, limpkin, sandhill cranes, great blue heron, anhinga, songbirds and red belly turtles.

We will take a short shaded walk on the natural trail under the oaks and visit the lakefront pavillion and education display. There is an active osprey nest at the lakefront. The trail includes an exercise course so come back and get your daily steps and stretches in a beautiful nearby natural area. We will be helping with some invasive plant removal so wear comfortable clothes and bring gloves if you wish to help. This will not be a strenuous outing, but it could be steamy this time of year.
