Event Details

Course Description:

FNGLA's Certified Landscape Technician (FCLT) program is designed to measure & enhance the skills of practicing landscape installation technicians. This program serves as a means to train employees, recognize their achievement, and raise the standards of working professionals within Florida's landscape industry.

This course is also a pre-requisite to those who hope obtain the FNGLA Certified Landscape Contractor (FCLC) certification. FCLC certifications have many benefits and may be included in the specifications of agencies requiring that anyone bidding on particular jobs in government or others to hold an FCLC designation. Having the FCLC can be a big boost to your company's ROI if you are looking to obtain bigger and larger contracts. But first you have to have your FCHP and FCLT certifications.

Course Benefits:

The course can be used as the foundation for a competency based pay system. Employers that wish to use graduated steps for performance pay can base there pay levels on levels of certification: FCHP certified, FCMT certified, FCLT certified, FCLC certified, ISA Arborist certified etc.

Employees learn about and are tested on the following skills:

  • Plant Identification
  • Landscape Plan Layout
  • Tree Planting, Staking and Pruning
  • Palm Banding & Propping
  • Grading, Drainage and Elevations
  • Irrigation
  • Equipment Operation
  • Job Evaluation

Course Requirements:

FCLT is designed for employees of landscape contracting design/build and installation firms, as well as state, county & municipal governments, parks & recreation departments, and land & home developers.

Those qualified to sit for the FCLT exam must have a minimum of 1 year experience in Florida's horticulture/landscape industry.

It is also required that students have completed and passed their FNGLA Certified Horticulture Professional (FCHP) exam before taking this course. The contents of this course are built on the foundation of the FCHP certification.
