Event description

Description

In the 1970s artist Alighiero Boetti made a signature series of ballpoint pen drawings exploring chance and order, systems of classification, duality, and collective labor. These large abstract drawings were made by Boetti’s students who were given specific drawing guidelines based on their genders. In conjunction with Core Sample: Open Sessions 13, artist Liz Collins will lead a workshop reconstructing Boetti’s drawing prompts to emphasize open gender classifications. Participants will be asked to identify gender categories beyond male and female, discarding the either/or aspect of Boetti’s method to focus the activity as an exploration of drawing and gender.

Core Sample: Open Sessions 13, features artists Alex Callender, Liz Collins, Dennis RedMoon Darkeem, Zatara McIntyre, Johanna Unzueta, and Cosmo Whyte.

Open Sessions is a two-year program which provides opportunities for selected artists to contextualize work and ideas through exhibitions, public programs, and critical dialogue, organized by Rosario Güiraldes and Lisa Sigal.
