Formation Environmental’s presentation will provide an overview of the integrated uses of remote sensing for vegetation monitoring that Formation has been using for various projects in wetland, floodplain, and riparian ecosystems. The presentation will include examples from various projects that show the following:
- LiDAR and 4-band imagery for vegetation monitoring and management.
- Use of imagery to monitor hydroperiod and frequency of inundation.
- LiDAR plant segmentation for survival monitoring.
- LiDAR derived canopy cover, height classification, and vertical complexity.
- LiDAR canopy change analysis for monitoring the effects of fires on vegetation.
- Uses of Leaf Area Index (LAI) and evapotranspiration data to evaluate groundwater-dependent ecosystems, and plant health and vigor.
- Evaluation of wind-wave buffers planted to protect levees from overtopping and erosion, Quantifying changes to the land surface (including erosion).
