Flyover Fest Presents: Lindy West & Samantha Irby

October 12th // W Hotel - The Foshay

Doors Open: 6:00 pm (Cocktail and Social Hour)

Program Starts: 7:00 pm

Lindy West

Hailed by Lena Dunham as an "essential (and hilarious) voice for women," Lindy West is ferociously witty and outspoken, tackling topics as varied as pop culture, social justice, and body image. Her empowering work has garnered a coast to coast audience that eagerly awaits Shrill, her highly anticipated literary debut (May 2016).

West has rocked readers and listeners in work published everywhere from The Guardian to GQ to “This American Life”. She is a catalyst for a national conversation in a world where not all stories are created equal and not every body is treated with equal respect. Shrill is comprised of a series of essays that bravely shares her life, including her transition from quiet to feminist out loud, coming of age in a popular culture that is hostile to women (especially fat, funny women), and how keeping quiet is not an option for any of us.

Samantha Irby

Samantha Irby is a comedian, author, and blogger. She runs the blog bitches gotta eat, where she writes posts about her personal life and events. Irby also co-hosted the live lit show Guts and Glory in Chicago with Keith Ecker until 2015.

In 2016 FX announced that they had purchased the television rights to Irby's 2013 memoir Meaty and her blog, with the intent to adapt them into a series. In 2017, Irby's second book We Are Never Meeting in Real Life was published by Vintage Books. It received critical acclaim and made The New York Times best-seller list for paperback nonfiction. In 2018, Irby wrote an episode of Shrill, titled Pool, which was widely regarded as a break through moment for representation in television.
