Event description
Fly Drown - Salon Talk: Homemaking through Activism with writer and labor organizer, Marsha Philpot

About this Event

The Salon Talks series will accompany the FLY | DROWN performative component and will take place every Saturday throughout the duration of the project. Each discussion will engage scholars, writers, dancers and/or relatives of Jennifer Harge, whereby we will illuminate texts, movement forms and lived experiences that have informed the crux of FLY | DROWN. `

A series of movement workshops will be offered each Tuesday during the duration of the exhibition, facilitated by scholars, artists and the artist’s family members. Workshops will celebrate movement and ritual practices that take place within, and drive the domestic. All workshops will take place from 2-5pm.

This discussion will focus on the labor organizing work of Marsha Philpot, and how this work has informed the ways that she has navigated the cartography of Highland Park and the metro Detroit area throughout the twentieth century. This salon talk with Marsha Philpot includes food and refreshments.

The project is generously funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Cranbrook Art Museum, ARTXDetroit, Queer | Art, and Dance/USA. Fellowships to Artists which is made possible with generous funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Fly | Drown is a participating project in The Landlord Colors: Material Detroit series, organized by Cranbrook Art Museum.
