Event description

Description

Veteran baritone and local audience favorite, Ron Williams will be joined by two talented international artists in a vocal recital entitled “Flowers of May”, a program of opera arias, Russian romances and musical theater.

Joining Mr. Williams is Maria Kotova. Maria’s beautiful lyric soprano has been hailed for her interpretation of Russian and Ukrainian romances as well as Spanish songs. Born in Moscow, she started vocal training at the Gnessin State Musical College at the age of 17. She received an Artist Diploma from Institute of Modern Art where she studied voice with the famous bass-baritone Valentine Anisimov.

She was awarded several cultural grants from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to research canciones and zarzuela, and performed in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia. While in Spain she participated in master classes with soprano Marimi del Pozo and international mezzo-soprano Tereza Berganza.

Also performing will be Russian soprano, Nafset Chenib. Nafset is an award-winning opera/crossover soprano from Adygea, Russia who rose to the top of her field, in spite of being born blind.

Her notable achievements include headlining along with José Carreras, the closing ceremony of the Winter Paralympics held in Sochi, Russia in 2014. She has also performed as an actress in Chekhov Moscow Art Theater. As a child prodigy, she was a member of the elite UNESCO choir performing with international stars such Montserrat Caballé, Angela Gheorghiu, and Roberto Alagna in front of elite audiences and dignitaries including Pope John Paul II.

Recognized nationwide for his artistry in the field of opera and oratorio, Ron Williams continues to gather acclaim for his work onstage and in the concert hall. He has sung leading roles with several opera companies nationally, including San Francisco Spring Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, New York Harlem Opera Ensemble, Opera San Jose and Boston Lyric Opera. Locally, Ron has appeared as soloist with Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Boston Civic Symphony, Symphony Pro Musica as well many choral ensembles in the area. Ron made his European debut in Germany and has performed throughout the continent.

The program will be one of the cultural highlights of the performing arts season and is not to be missed.

The performance will be held at United Church of Brookline, 210 Harvard Street on Sunday, May 26 at 7 PM, with tickets priced from $25 to $35. Tickets are available at Eventbrite. For more Ticket information contact (774) 232-1006
