Florida 8(a) Alliance Course (8AM-11:15AM)- September Workshop (11:30-2PM)

Florida 8(a) Alliance presents the September Workshop:
8 - 11am: The launching the Florida 8(a) Alliance course which covers information about the federal contracting market, marketing tools and strategies. This course is for companies in years 1-3 of the 8(a) program, small businesses new to federal contracting (including those that are thinking of getting their 8(a) certification) and those in the 8(a) program that have not yet won an 8(a) contract (years 1-9).
11:15 - 2PM: The Florida 8(a) Alliance workshop will include networking, Government Agency Representatives and SBA representataives. Lunch will be served.
Mr. Chris Harrington
is the Chief Acquisition Support Office for the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) MacDill AFB, Fl. As the Chief he oversees the Small Business Office, the Technology & Industry Liaison Office, Facilities, Security, and the Workforce Development Office (HR) for the Special Operations Research Development and Acquisition Center (SORDAC). He has served as the Director of Small Business Programs since October 2008. Prior to his arrival at USSOCOM he served as the Chief of Contracts Policy at the United States Transportation Command, Scott AFB, Ill. He retired in 2005 from Scott AFB, Ill, where he was the 375th Contracting Squadron Commander at the time of his retirement. He is Level III Certified in Contracting, and obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of California, at Santa Barbara and his MBA from the University of Montana.
Robert B. Chavarria
is the Senior Area Manager for the Tampa Bay South Florida District Alternate Work Site (AWS). In his capacity, Robert is responsible for SBA operations in a nine county Central Southwest Florida area that includes Charlotte, DeSoto, Hardee, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, and Sarasota Counties. He is also the Veterans Affairs officer for the South Florida District. Robert is a native of San Antonio, Texas. He volunteered for the U.S. Army and served three years during the Vietnam War era in the U.S. Army Signal Corp in microwave communications. Robert is a graduate of University of Texas at Austin, with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He pursued a graduate degree with a major in Procurement at Webster's University.

On behalf of the Florida 8(a) Alliance, I would like to introduce our organization - our group was established to strengthen, promote, educate and train 8(a) and small business firms in Florida by:
· Strengthening the relationship between federal customers, prime contractors and the 8(a) business program;
· Promoting a strong network of entrepreneurs and small businesses throughout the state;
· Educating and training business owners to grow, prosper, and mentor each other.
The organization will provide resources through our S.T.E.P. program in areas to strengthen, train, educate and promote small businesses as they grow. The activities through this program will include chapter meetings, networking events, training sessions, newsletter & educational publications, business plan review, and an annual conference.
