Description

I'm proud to announce that I've finally created a series of four one-hour classes that explore his design philosophies in-depth through a smaller classroom-type setting.

January 22, 2018 at 6:00pm:
Wright's Enduring Usonian Ideas & Their Impact
This session will cover Wright's later career, exploring the way that Wright's ideals for an affordable middle class architecture exerted an influence on ranch style houses, the development of Levittown, mid-century architecture, and beyond. The session will also examine Wright's innovative use of radiant floor heat, his desire to open the main spaces of the home to each other, and his predictions for the suburban environment of today.

A maximum of 30 tickets will be available for each class. Individual class sessions are $12. As a special bonus, you may reserve all four classes for a discounted rate of $40 AND receive a special Frank Lloyd Wright-themed gift (choose from a biography of Wright or a 2018 Wall Calendar of Wright Buildings).

OTHER CLASSES INCLUDE:

January 8, 2018 at 6:00pm: From Arts & Crafts to Organic Architecture
The first session explores Wright's ideas of organic architecture through photos, videos, class exercises and design worksheets. Wright's own words and designs will be used to illustrate the manner in which he extrapolated natural forms to create space in architecture and create order in his collateral furniture designs.

January 15, 2018 at 6:00pm: Frank Lloyd Wright & The Prairie School of Architecture
This session examines Wright's early work, focusing on his ideas of Prairie School architecture as a "truly original American design philosophy." Special emphasis will be paid to his art glass and early prairie furniture.

January 29, 2018 at 6:00pm: Wright's Influence Public and Sacred Spaces
The final session will focus on Wright's public buildings and sacred spaces, including a synagogue, a Greek Orthodox Church, a Christian Church, a Unitarian Meeting House, and a non-denominational university chapel, among others. The hour will detail the overall philosophies that Wright adhered to when designing a space for large gatherings and the influence these ideas had on church and public space architecture in the second half of the 20th century.

TO CHOOSE THIS OPTION, PLEASE BUY THE TICKET TITLED "4 CLASSES".

Students are welcome to arrive as early at 5:30pm. The building allows food, so students are encouraged to bring their dinner and eat before and during the beginning of class. Box meals can be made available based upon student interest.

Classes are scheduled to run 60-75 minutes.
