The FLIP IT® strategy uses four supportive steps to help young children learn about their feelings, gain self-control and reduce challenging behavior. This training will be geared toward directors, teachers, and providers.
About the Training:
FLIP IT® is a strategy that offers a simple, kind, strength-based, commonsense and effective four step process for day-to-day challenges and challenging behaviors from children. The four steps are embodied in the FLIP IT mnemonic which stands for F – Feelings, L – Limits, I – Inquiries, P – Prompts. FLIP IT is nothing new, but transforms best practice into a strategy that is easy to remember, applicable in a variety of challenging situations and portable. Children who are frequently “FLIPPED” become emotionally aware problem-solvers who develop healthy coping skills that will last a lifetime.
Outcomes for Participants:
- Gain a full understanding of the 4 FLIP IT Steps (Feelings, Limits, Inquiries, Prompts) and how they work together to transform challenging behaviors.
- Be able to avoid common mistakes made when trying to apply each of the four steps.
- Reflect on what each steps means to them during the adult reflection portion of the training.
- Explore how to implement each of the four steps by learning what to say and why we say it.
- Practice each newly learned step to ensure the transfer of knowledge from the training context to the adult/child interaction.
- Ask questions and think critically about the application of each step.
- Learn the long term benefits of using the FLIP IT strategy.
