Description

In conjunction with the exhibition Michael Richards: Winged at the Stanford Art Gallery from January 22 through March 24, 2019, this symposium will bring together a preeminent group of artists and Stanford scholars to explore and discuss themes Michael Richards addressed throughout his life and artistic practice, including flight, diaspora, identity and afterlife, specifically in the context of historic and ongoing social injustice and racial inequity.

Program/schedule

11am-12pm Tour at the Stanford Art Gallery of exhibition with Michael Richards: Winged curators Alex Fialho (Stanford Art History '11) and Melissa Levin (Barnard College Art History '02)

12:15pm Light lunch in the Stanford Art Gallery Arcade

1:30pm Session 1: A Dialogue on Diaspora with William Cordova, Artist & Friend of Michael Richards and Marci Kwon, Assistant Professor of Art History

VISITOR INFORMATION: Oshman Hall is located in the McMurtry Building on Stanford’s campus, at 355 Roth Way. The Stanford Art Gallery is located on Stanford’s campus, off Palm Drive, 419 Lasuen Mall.
