Description
Fledge Demo Day is not your typical startup pitch event, it is instead a night of inspiration, with TED-style talks showcasing how to address real problems of the world with for-profit businesses. Six amazing mission-driven for-profits can truly improve the world.
Two American teams and four African. Companies that may cure Ebola, bring hand-craftsmanship to ecommerce, feed Kenya and Uganda much needed protein from chickens and eggs, keep the elephants off of Botswanan farms with living fences of bees, and power whole rural off-grid communities with renewable electricity from water.
-
Bieera Energy (Kenya) is literally electrifying rural Kenya with microhydro, spinning out an electric company from Kisii University
-
Briotech (Seattle) produces a molecule used by the human body for disinfection and healing, uniquely generated in a stable, liquid form usable for preventing the spread of disease.
-
Chicken Basket (Kenya) is a two-stop shop, distributing day-old chicks, feed, and medicines to smallholder farmers, then aggregating and selling live, butchered, and fried chicken in and around Kisumu, Kenya
-
Fuchsia Shoes (Seattle) manufactures beautiful shoes by artisans in Pakistan, and sells these shoes though e-commerce in the United States
-
Kalahari Honey (Botswana) helps create the people-wildlife divide functioning by creating living fences made of bees, while creating income for smallholder farmers through honey.
-
Oreeggs (Uganda) is the largest wholesale suppliers of eggs, both for eating as as day-old chicks for farmers in Eastern Uganda.
This is Fledge's fourteenth Demo Day, our fourteenth global accelerator, and a celebration of seven years of effort.
