Description

"There is a wrong perception that all Indonesian food is spicy."

Come find out for yourself, that in fact, it is not only rich in flavors but it may even inspire you to explore more and even travel there!

INDONESIA is recognized as the world's largest archipelago, comprising over 17,000 islands. BALI ISLAND is one of their famous ones. Its people speak more than 600 laguages or dialects. Some describe it as the most diverse country in the world.

"Indonesian cuisine has so many regional varieties, depending on geography, culture, beliefs, religion, economy and from a 100 years of influences from visitors and migrants from other countries. Our culture is so deep and diverse - its still a MYSTERY to a lot of peole because you have to travel to many places to learn about our food." - Chef WILLIAM WONGSO -

William W. Wongso, Indonesian born Celebrity Chef and Author of the 2017 Gourmand Award World Best Cookbook Winner, "FLAVORS OF INDONESIA, WILLIAM WONGSO'S CULINARY WONDERS" agrees that there is no better place to introduce the complexity and boldness of Indoneisan spices than in Los Angeles, the melting pot mega city, where foodies gather to marvel good foods from all over the world.

".....thrilling, enjoyable and essential reading." - Anthony Bourdain -

"If Indonesian food culture has a voice, it would be spoken through Pak William and inked here..." - KF Seetooh, Makansutra Singapore -

"This book is a masterpiece, a feast for the sense, a tribute to the traditional authentic flavors that are synonymous with the Indonesian archipelago. William delves expertly into the amazing diversity of the country's food origins capturing the essense of breakfast food at morning markets, street food snacks and regional favorites so perfectly. It is an open invitation to explore the very best that Indonesia has to offer. An essential reference for enthusiastic cooks everywhere who are keen to learn more about this vibrant cuisine." - Chrstine Manfield, Australian Celebrity Chef, Author, Food and Travel Writer -

The love for food runs in Wongso's family. The kitchen was the domain of his grandmother where in those days, neighborhood friendships were developed by sending the home specilaty to others. Wongso recalled the complexity of the flavor and aroma was mouth-watering and has been hard-coded into his tongue.

His palate was spoiled with authentic flavors and his passion for bold flavors, just like his grandmother's creation, took him to travel to different countries to further his knowledge of cooking in 1972. In Pondicherry, South India, he came across a similar technique that his grandmother used in fermentation. Then he perfected his baking skill in Australia and Noumea, the capital of New Caledonia. That was only the beginning, for he started travelling to Europe and learned how to bake French baguette, the German Brothen and alt Deucth saur broth, the Swiss semmel, the Italian focaccia, the Dutch wholemeal bread and many more diverse varities of European bread specialties. His method ia always similar, tasting first before learning the technique and understanding the ingredients. And just like that, he started exploring the world and the world became his home. His travel for food still continues. Wongso's mission is to introduce Indonesian's secret flavors to the world, is the reason that brought him to Los Angeles.

Understanding flavors is to understand food and its culture! He did it by following his instinct and desire to learn from the experts who range from villagers to international chefs. And so it was with Indonesian cuisines. His understanding also originates from exploring traditional markets. Indeed, they are the heart of each region's food culture.

Are you ready for an exotic adventure of flavors in Los Angeles?
