Description

The Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership Business Improvement District (BID), in collaboration with General Assembly and local institutions and businesses, presents eight weeks of free education classes on the Flatiron South Public Plaza.

Brands as Landmarks | ThoughtMatter

Landmarks, until very recently, were essential to urban navigation. The role of the landmark has changed dramatically now that people can carry the planet in their pocket. Iconic landmarks like Trinity Church and the Chrysler Building now compete for eyeballs not only with the traffic, signage and bustle of the city around them, but with a steady stream of emails, app notifications and breaking news alerts. We look for the Flatiron Building when we need to post to the ‘gram, not when we need to figure out where we’re going.

While the way that people relate to the physical world around them is evolving, this also creates new opportunities for place-based brands looking to catch people’s attention, raise awareness and increase engagement. Join ThoughtMatter’s director of content, Brendan Crain, for a talk and discussion about how brands can use messaging and visual identity to stand out in a crowded city.

INSTRUCTOR: Brendan Crain, Director of Content at ThoughtMatter

The Flatiron Summer Series, is a series of free community programming for the neighborhood, by the neighborhood, including free educational & cultural talks on Talk Tuesdays, free fitness classes on Wellness Wednesdays, and nostalgic games and performances on Throwback Thursdays. For a full list of free classes, activities, and entertainment on the Flatiron Public Plazas, visit FlatironDistrict.nyc/summer2019.

Rain Location: In the event of inclement weather, the event will take place at an INDOOR Rain Location. It will not be canceled. The talks will be held at 6 pm at the General Assembly location at 902 Broadway, 4th Floor. Follow us on Twitter @FlatironNY for last-minute updates.
