Event description
Volunteers are needed to help reattach loose deck boards on Bridge 31 known as Trollheim Bridge.

About this Event

The Friends of Mount Vernon Trail will be fixing loose deck boards on Bridge 31. This event is part of our ongoing work to prevent crashes. Bridge 31 is located near Theodore Roosevelt Island and is commonly referred to as Trollheim because of it's slipperiness.

Volunteers will perform the following work:

  • Identifying loose deck boards
  • Using cordless drills to reattach boards
  • Using hammers to hammer or remove nails
  • This work will require frequent kneeling

What to Bring:

  • Water
  • Gloves (We'll have a few pair on hand as well)
  • Safety Vest (We'll have some of these on hand as well)
  • Cordless drill if you have one (we'll have some on hand but more will help)

Where to Meet:

We'll gather near the bike racks on the south side of the Theodore Roosevelt parking lot at 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 14th.

COVID Safety Precautions:

All volunteers are expected to wear a face covering and maintain at least 6 feet of distance from other volunteers. All equipment will be sanitized prior to use. We'll have some hand sanitizer available. We'll have gloves and bright safety vests to use but recommend bringing your own if you have them.

Fundraising for Non-Slip Treatment:

We're raising funds to install a non-slip treatment on the bridge. For details and to donate, visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/a-crash-free-trollheim
