About this event
FIVE TOWNS: ONE BOOK. Bringing our communities together for an important conversation around The Sum of Us by Heather McGhee.
Join us Saturday March 19th at 2pm for a discussion focusing on Chapter 7: Living Apart. Our guests for this exploration of how segregation hurts us all, both where we live and where we educate, are Maria Dautruche, Director of Westchester Center for Racial Equity, and Matt Gonzales, Founder/Director of the Integration and Innovation Initiative of the NYU Metro Center. Panelist bios here.
This will be a hybrid event with a limited number of in-person tickets available as well as a virtual option to participate.
New York Times Bestseller THE SUM OF US: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together offers a powerful exploration of inequality and the lesson that generations of Americans have failed to learn: Racism has a cost for everyone—not just for people of color. The zero-sum paradigm is explored in depth —the idea that progress for some of us must come at the expense of others. But in unlikely places of worship and work, there is proof of the "Solidarity Dividend": the benefits we gain when people come together across race to accomplish what we simply can’t do on our own. Author Heather McGhee will only be visiting on March 27th - tickets here.
Sponsored by CURE (The Coalition for Understanding Racism through Education), LMC Media, Westchester Library System and these five community libraries: Harrison, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, New Rochelle, and Rye. With generous support from the Westchester County Board of Legislators.
IMPORTANT event information: Please choose either in person or virtual ticket when you register. For in person at Larchmont Library, wearing a mask is mandatory at all times.
