Five Oaks Museum Showcase
Event Information
About this event
Thanks to presenting sponsors Pat Reser and Bill Westphal, Five Oaks Museum will showcase a variety of vibrant performances and speakers on May 12, 2022 in celebration of the museum's exhibitions and the incredible community leaders who created them.
One highlight of the night will be a musical performance by Joaquin Lopez, Portland's Creative Laureate. Joaquin wrote three original songs for our #StandUpFG exhibition. He says "This is the gift I have been given with #StandUpFG: the opportunity to listen to [the youth's] stories, create songs, and be part of the healing journey... It’s been an honor to collaborate with youth and transform their call to action into song."
Each Showcase performer highlights one of our community-led exhibitions, and we can't wait to share their brilliance with you!
Representing our 2021 exhibition Untouchable Artifacts, artist Anangookwe Wolf will weave us a story of family, cultural inheritance, and present-day.
If you attended last year's showcase, you will remember Maria's dance party outro! Maria “Songbird” Remos is a musician and DJ whose family story is featured in our 2020 exhibition DISplace. She will spin dancey soul music from well known Motown to unknown labels to get us grooving!
Guest Curators Israel Pastrana and Steph Littlebird will speak. ASL interpretation will be provided by Fingers Crossed Interpreting.
The museum thanks presenting sponsors Pat Reser and Bill Westphal for making this exciting event possible.
Big shout-out as well to Community Sponsors: Erin Eberle, Alfredo Moreno, Juan Carlos Gonzalez, Dean Moberg, Damon Porter, Jennifer Fang, Brenda & Wayne Rodini, Jennifer Ruwart, Christina Dougherty, Sandy Palmer, Carol Beauchamp, Leslie Campbell, Jennifer Shih, and David Medford.
