Introduction to Phytochemistry and Traditional Chinese Medicine Five Element Theory

Are you curious as to why herbal medicine is so effective and what herbs are really doing in your body? If you are ready to take the dive into plant phytochemistry and energetics, then join Certified Clinical Herbalist Emily Sanders to learn the basics of plant constituents and 5 element theory.

In this live ONLINE class we will taste our way through the 5 flavors and sample what herbs do in our body. Learn how to identify herbal actions and effected body systems by taste, and understand how these compounds can be best extracted in medicine making. In this class we will also introduce traditional Chinese medicine theory, and how different flavors affect different emotions, organs, and meridians.

Have fun in the field with your new community of aspiring herbalists and holistic healers and connect to other like-minded people just like you.

What you will learn:

  • Learn an introduction to Phytochemistry and 5 element theory.
  • Study energetic and emotional medicine.
  • Learn Medical Qigong exercises and self-care for the 5 elements & emotional states.
  • Understand how to best extract specific classes of plant constituents.
  • Taste over 20 herbs and learn their energetic effects.
  • Get live support & coaching from a Certified Clinical Herbalist and Nutritionist & founder of the Artemisia Academy, Emily Sanders.
  • Connect with a new community of like-minded people.

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for intermediate aspiring herbalists and holistic practitioners that have already had a fundamental overview herbal training. Basic understanding of anatomy, herbal actions, and a working knowledge of 40-60 herbs are required before taking this course. If you have already taken a beginner herbalist program, and are ready to move beyond the basics, then this class is just for you.

What do I need?

All the herbs that you need for class will be provided for you in your Herb Kit sent to you or picked up before class. There are no required books for this class. However, you will get a recommended reading list before the class starts in case you wish to go more in depth.

What if I miss the live class?

Anyone who registers for the class will be given access to the online class portal. All class recordings will be available to watch anytime. Class notes and hand outs will also be posted online, so no matter what, you won’t miss anything! If you work during the day, and still want the live support and coaching from a teacher, don’t worry! We have a live drop in office hour 1 evening each week so you can still ask questions and get feedback throughout the entire course.

If you are interested in learning more about becoming a Community Herbalist, this course is part of the Community Herbalist Program. If you want to go beyond this class and learn not only how to identify herbal properties by flavor, but also how to identify and harvest herbs, how to formulate herbal remedies and turn them into sellable products for retail, you can join us for more hands-on classes in the rest of the program.
