Cops Against Cancer
Cops Against Cancer is a faith-based organization that focuses on the acute financial, educational, and emotional needs of cancer patients and their families. My wife Shirley and I founded the 501c3 nonprofit organization in 2010 after my diagnosis with stage 2-colon cancer.
During my recovery, Shirley and I saw the struggles and overwhelming changes cancer families endured. We founded Cops Against Cancer with a mission that reflects my 35 years in law enforcement – to “protect and serve” cancer patients and their families.
Since 2012, Cops Against Cancer has raised over $225,000 and assisted more than 625 cancer families in 78 of Iowa’s 99 counties. Every year, our organization strives to raise more to accommodate the increasing needs of our clients.
We receive funding through grants, donations from individuals and businesses, and our annual Cops Against Cancer Five-0 BBQ Classic in June. Cops Against Cancer is proud of the fact that for the past two years 90 cents of every dollar raised goes to client assistance programs. No one within the organization receives any financial benefit.
Cops Against Cancer has made it our commitment to making a difference in cancer patients’ lives. As a value-focused organization, Cops Against Cancer is built on the pillars of recovery and extending the quality of life for cancer families. We provide patient and family support transition and life coaching; help navigating resource referrals; grief and loss coaching; survivor-to-survivor recovery programs and financial assistance.
To continue assisting families, we are asking for your help. Our purpose is to not only provide assistance but also help restore dreams, goal setting, and normalcy to the lives of cancer patients and their families.
