2017 Presidential Inauguration

Every Presidential Inauguration provides the FIU community an opportunity to commemorate history and analyze the potential impact of the new presidency on our country. Join us for activities during the week of Jan. 16-20th. Throughout the week, FIU in DC, conveniently located two blocks from the U.S. Capitol, will serve as a convening point for special guests from Miami, the state of Florida, and national partners from the capital region.

FIU in DC Hospitality Suite

Visiting Washington or know of friends who are? FIU welcomes you take in the warmth of our Hospitality Suite and learn more about our federal partnerships and leadership in research and innovation. If you're looking for a location to convene other guests, a place to telework, or just want to escape the frigid cold for a bit, let us know! Of course, cafecito and pastelitos will be served every afternoon at 3:05 p.m., complements of Miami's own, Vicky Bakery! Email fiuindc@fiu.edu for any special arrangements!

Student Essay Competition

FIU launched the 2017 Presidential Inauguration Student Essay Contest to hear what our students think about the public policy implications of the transition from an Obama administration to a Trump administration. An astonoshing 75 students submitted essays for a chance to travel all-expenses paid to Washington, D.C. to participate in Inauguration Week activities with FIU in DC. The winner will be announced on Jan. 9!

Alumni Community Service Activity

In the spirit of MLK Day of Service, FIU invites you to join us as we volunteer our time to bowl with U.S. veterans who fought to preserve American traditions such as the presidential inauguration. Thanks to Friends of the Soldiers Home, FIU family and friends will have the opportunity to socialize and enjoy a fun evening with residents of the Armed Forces retirement home.

Dialogue with Presidential Adviser

On the eve of the 58th inauguration, come hear from key influencers on the opportunities and challenges before the historic administration of President Donald J. Trump. FIU invites you to join us in an exclusive and timely dialogue led by our own alumna, Mercedes Schlapp, '94 which will include key presidential advisers and other thought leaders. And with Florida playing such a decisive role in the 2016 election, there will be no shortage of key leaders from the Sunshine State at this interactive event.

Inauguration Watch Event (RSVP MANDATORY; Capacity Limited)

Join our student interns, visitors from Florida and local alumni as we commemorate the 58th Inauguration a short distance from the Capitol Building. Light breakfast and snacks to be served.

Note: FIU in DC is located within a secure zone for Inauguration Day, so to access the event, you will need to RSVP, print a ticket and show I.D. to gain access to the building. Please plan ahead as checkpoints are expected.

Post-Inauguration Reception + Open House (RSVP MANDATORY)

At the conclusion of the Inauguration, visit FIU in DC as we recognize Members of our Florida Congressional delegation and visiting elected officials. Lunch and beverages to be served.
