Event description

Description

Prehab4Cancer and ERAS+ education day examining rationale, evidence base, implementation and potential extensions for these GM system-wide optimisation programmes.

Aims of the event:

This CPD opportunity will allow relevant interdisciplinary professionals working with people affected by cancer to gain a better understanding of optimisation approaches with the ability to confidently and consistently embed this in their practice.

For people affected by cancer the aim will be to give them a better understanding of how them and their loved ones can actively prepare prior to and during cancer treatments. It will also support understanding around activities they can do when recovering from treatment to have improved outcomes and quality of life.

For those involved in service improvement and cancer pathway planning it supports understanding of the importance of optimisation modalities + the need for these to be resourced within existing pathways.

Topics to be covered

    • Understand the rationale & evidence base underpinning prehabilitation and how better preparation for cancer treatment + maintaining fitness through treatment will help improve patient outcomes.

    • Discussion and awareness of multi-modal interventions involved in ERAS+ and prehabilitation including education, exercise, nutrition, mental wellbeing and other lifestyle modifications.

    • Opportunity to become a Physical Activity Champion through Public Health England certificated training to be delivered by Dr Anna Lowe.

    • Research opportunities within current delivery and potential expansion of prehabilitation service delivery locally and nationally.

    • Overview of the national picture including recent launch of national guidance and how this fits with the NHS England Long Term Plan and wider cancer guidance (including national targets).

    • Update on cohort specific local prehabilitation implementation and plans for extension to programme delivery.
