Fit-Fest: DSC Special Event
Denver Sewing Collective Special Event!
Join us for an evening of measuring, fitting, basic pattern alterations and FUN!
Wine and snacks provided!
Members of the Denver Sewing Collective are invited to this special evening to iron out your basic bodice, dress and skirt fitting questions! We'll review how to properly get measurements of yourself, members will pair up and take measurements so you have a "good" baseline for pattern fitting, discuss ease and how it applies to different garments, review the basics of printed pattern modification and how to determine needed mods from your measurements, implementing those modifications, and applying these modifications to future projects.
This is a great opportunity for new sewers, crafters who are interested in fashion sewing, or anyone who wants to get a better fit out of their home-sewn garments. Bring a pattern you have a question on or need a few pointers!
PLEASE wear or bring a tight fitting tank top or turtleneck to wear during the measuring process, and wear the undergarments you normally would under the type of clothing you are constructing (shirt, dress, etc). If you have exercize shorts or cycling pants to wear for measuring the hips, that would result in a more accurate measurement than with jeans or loose pants.
Bring a pattern you wish to alter, or purchase a pattern in your size from the thrift store as we will demonstrate methods of pattern alteration, and apply to the pattern during class.
Bring a pencil & paper to take notes, and a pattern you have questions about!
We're working with scissors, pins, needles, hot irons and a machine...is there a chance of injuring myself?
YES!!!! If you are not paying attention or using care, it is possible to stab, cut, poke, burn or maim yourself with some of the items we use in class. HISS STUDIO IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR INJURIES SUSTAINED DURING CLASS. Please be mindful of the tools you are using, and use at your own risk! By purchasing tickets you acknowledge HISS STUDIO, z|art dept., the instructors and staff are NOT RESPONSIBLE for injuries sustained during class. Thanks!

We believe that Happiness is Simple Sewing (HISS), and we think you will too once you've experienced our classes. Sewing doesn't have to be difficult, mind bending or stressful…it can be meditative, creative and stress relieving. With the skills you'll gain from HISS, your sewing can become Zen and professional!
We specialize in sewing classes for the hobbyist
Seasoned sewer or newfound newbie, HISS studio has a class offering that can help you improve your sewing skills. From basic seams to complex pattern fitting, learn to tackle all of your sewing challenges with ease and excellent professional outcomes.
Classes are limited to an hour in duration and 3 students at a time to provide maximum opportunity for you to engage, learn, and retain the skills we'll address in each class.
After teaching many students one on one and in class settings, we have found that students learn best in small, short classes that allow the student to focus on one particular topic or skill. When many topics are covered over a 2 or 3 hour course, often only 30% of the content is retained. Additionally, we've found it a lot easier for students to find an hour of time for a class than lose an afternoon or entire evening with busy schedules.
Don't have a sewing machine, or don't want to lug yours around town? No sweat, we provide each student a basic machine to work with as part of our classes. Prefer to use your own machine? That's great too...bring it with you, we welcome all makes and models! Needles, thread and fabric scraps provided for basic classes, intermediate and advanced classes or project classes will have a supply list for you to purchase.
So, what makes HISS studio different from the rest? a few things…
1. Small, focused classes
2. No pressure to buy - we're not a store, we're here to teach you skills
3. 1 hour classes to fit your busy lifestyle, and optimize your retention of the skills covered
4. YOU are in control of your materials cost. We'll let you know what materials to bring to class, and how to get the best deal from many suppliers around town
5. While we do offer a few project classes, we are focused on teaching you core skills that apply to many different varieties of sewing projects: crafter, hobbyist, thrift seeker or fashion-forward. Our project classes are to help you solidify your new skills by creating a project which incorporates your newfound tricks.
