About the organizer
Founded in 1985, New Economics for Women (NEW) was the first Latina operated nonprofit community economic development organization in the country. Our founding mothers were committed to reducing poverty by focusing on the needs of women and children. NEW began by designing and building affordable housing for single working parents in Los Angeles, California. In the ensuing 30 years we have expanded our services to include the development of charter schools and business/community centers, as well as a broad spectrum of education and asset building programs that empower low income women and their families to transform poverty into a springboard for success.
