Description

Join us for the launch of the First Peoples of Rhode Island Rhode Tour! Developed with The Tomaquag Museum, the tour shares the broad stories and histories of Rhode Island's Indigenous peoples through the experiences of unique individuals. From Westerly to North Smithfield, to Providence and Bristol, stops explore both historical and contemporary stories of Native American life and heritage. At the event, Content Developer Katherine Kirakosian, PhD and Lorén Spears, Executive Director of the Tomaquag Museum, will talk about their experiences in curating the tour.

The Tomaquag Museum will be open to visitors who would like to dive deeper and learn more about the heritage and history of Rhode Island's First Peoples.

  • Date: Saturday, October 20th, 2018
  • Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm
  • Location: Tomaquag Museum, 390 Summit Road, Exeter, RI 02822

Light refreshments will be provided! Please be sure to bring your Eventbrite ticket with you! If you plan to visit the museum after 12:00pm, you'll be asked to pay the standard admission rate.

A joint initiative of the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities, Brown University's John Nicholas Brown Center for Public Humanities and Cultural Heritage, and the Rhode Island Historical Society, Rhode Tour is a smartphone app and website that uses text, sound, and images to bring Rhode Island stories to the palm of your hand. Visit www.rhodetour.org to take a thematic tour sitting at your computer, or download the app for free from the Apple Store or Google Play to experience Rhode Island in a whole new way!

We thank the Heritage Harbor Foundation as well as the Herman H. Rose Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation for their generous support in developing the tour.
