Description

The FLP Gala celebrates the new year by bringing together changemakers and social entrepreneurs from around the globe to learn more about the FLP, poverty, basic needs programming, woc empowerment, and best practices for changemakers in business. The evening begins with dinner, cocktails and mocktails, networking and fun photobooth, moves to FLP´s year in service and FLP´s service awards (nominess & awardees) and pledges, ending the night with shopping, mingling and dancing.

First Ladies of Poverty Foundation (FLP) is founded by Shatoyia Jones, Ms. Massachusetts 2019 American Woman of Service, Miss Black America Massachusetts, Founder and CEO of Ordinary x Influence, and The First Lady of Poverty Lifestyle-Style Blog Princessa de la Paz. Shatoyia grew up in one of the poorest cities in Louisiana and went to one of the most elite private colleges in the U.S. First Ladies of Poverty is her way of giving back. The FLP connects women of color and allies who are actively fighting poverty or looking to escape poverty and make a positive impact to the necessary and tools for long-term success (max representation and visibility, profitability, scalability and impact with minimal burnout). From basic needs to social entrepreneurship and educational programming, The First Ladies of Poverty Foundation creates, coordinates, funds and implements programming that works to alleviate poverty, as well as support programming and annual events for the women involved. In providing a supportive community with a focus on healing & resiliency community for, the women and allies (female and non-female) involved are granted opportunities to make a significant impact through high-impact social good initiatives and business ventures, while also telling their stories and discovering tools to guard against discrimination and hate crimes.

The FLP also works to alleviate poverty for under-served communities and families by publishing relevant works and establishing basic needs programming in under-served communities around the U.S.

Our Objectives:

  1. To make basic needs, education, opportunity more accessible in under-served communities
  2. To equip women of color with the mindset and tools they need to live a happy, fulfilling and financially stable life despite being the last to be considered and more targeted for hate crimes
  3. To celebrate and actively support women of color working to alleviate poverty
  4. To support social entrepreneurship and the awareness of social good employment opportunities
