Event description

Description

Note: Women of all ethnic backgrounds are accepted into the program.

The FLP Academy Program is a week-long initiative that provides opportunity and educational access to ambitious, like-minded female leaders, with a focus on under-served, low-income and first gen women of color, who desire to change the world through poverty alleviation. Born out of the frustration by the gap of the amount of NGOs in the U.S. tackling poverty but the still significant rates of extreme poverty in the U.S., as well as the very few channels to find opportunities to connect social good initiatives to the communities who support them and need them most. By connecting the upcoming generation of women to confident, passionate and innovative change makers, mentors, resources (including financial capital to fund their ideas), and meaningful career opportunities, the FLP Academy inspires future generations to not give up on changing and influencing social systems. The FLP Academy also creates a strong community of women looking to create industry influencing initiatives and businesses. How is our success measured? By leaving our youth feeling that our academy equipped them with the confidence and resources needed to create impactful, longstanding initiatives and businesses. It is also measured by the longevity of the positive impact that our First Ladies of Poverty make in their efforts towards positive social change.

Do I need to have a business or initiative before the pitch competition? No you do not! In fact, you will have time to develop one during your time at the academy with ongoing support and mentorship.

Does my business or initiative have to be about alleviating poverty? Yes, but there are many ways to alleviate poverty. Through educational programming, tackling hunger, subsidized housing and so much more, which will be outlined and discussed during the program.
