Event description
Help First Fridays Fort Wayne honor veterans by having one of Fort Wayne's finest, Jarrod Wilson, share his leadership journey.

About this Event

Jarrod Wilson is a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He spent four years serving his country as a Crew Chief with the responsibility of performing inspections on, and maintaining, one of the force’s large transport aircraft, the C-17A. Upon discharge, and during a three-year stint as a welder and fabricator, he entered real estate school, but did not feel it gave him the opportunities he was looking for in the work force.

He then decided to go to college and enrolled at Harrison College. During his time at Harrison College, he graduated with an associate’s degree in business administration and bachelor’s degree in business management. With his newfound knowledge, Jarrod was hired to work at the Indiana Department of Transportation. Jarrod started as a surveyor until he continually advanced to a Real Estate and Right of Way Manager. In this position he planned, directed, and administered real estate and utility/railroad operations. With this experience and continued focus on education, it landed Jarrod a new position with American Electric Power.

In this new position, Jarrod effectively managed contractors and right of way duties throughout Indiana, Michigan and North Western Ohio necessary for the construction, operation and maintenance of AEP’s electric transmission facilities. While focusing on advancement in the company Jarrod returned to college to obtain his Master of Science in leadership and Master of Business Administration at Trine University. This continued education supplied new opportunities within American Electric Power at one of its operating company’s Indiana Michigan Power. Jarrod managed a project to rebuild its five underground networks within Indiana Michigan Power’s footprint. Today, Jarrod has advanced to the Manager of Meter Operations for Indiana Michigan Power; which supports approximately 600,000 customers across Indiana and Michigan.

He has applied to start his DBA program with Indiana Wesleyan University in 2020. Jarrod is an alum of Greater Fort Wayne Inc. Leadership class of 2018. Named 40 under 40 by the Fort Wayne Business Weekly.

In his role with Veteran's Connect, he is currently working with a phenomenal team to influence awareness around benefits available to one of the bravest groups of men and women in the world, our Veterans! Our rights are protected every day by our Military and they continue to have our back. They are connecting Veterans to strengthen our community when they return home to our great city. This advance that their team Veterans Connect LFW is taking will direct them to call United Way 211 to see what resources and benefits may be available to them and their family.
