Description

The icarus Quartet kicks off their 2017-2018 residency at St. David’s with a concert featuring music of Béla Bartók and Dave Maric.

The 2017-2018 Ensemble-in-Residence, the icarus Quartet, opens the First Friday series on October 6 at 7:30 pm with two extraordinary pieces that capitalize on the groups two-piano, two-percussion format. The program includes the monumental and uproarious Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion by Béla Bartók, the originator of this ensemble type. Following is British composer David Maric’s Trophic Cascades, which creates “an enticing sound world that mixes high avant garde classicism with populist vernacular music.” You can expect to hear a mixture of “the sounds of the Javanese gamelan…as well as strands of bebop and boogie-woogie” which is “skillfully achieved” (South Florida Classical Review). We guarantee there isn’t a concert like this one in Baltimore this weekend!
