The mission of the Bowie-Mitchellville Diamond Foundation is:

  • To encourage the development and leadership training among young African American males.
  • To help advance a higher living of standard for young African American males who are economically disadvantaged.
  • To assist the Bowie-Mitchellville (MD) Alumni Chapter’s Guide Right program, which serve to assist young males in the community.
  • To work with young African American males at the Elementary and Secondary school level and to identify with those males who do not have a father in the household.
  • To serve as role models to young African American males and provide financial assistance by sending them to camp or leadership training and to help provide an opportunity to grow.

Members of the Foundation are also members of the Bowie-Mitchellville (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated. The Foundation has a total of over 80 professional men and growing who reside in Prince George’s County Maryland.

Over 8 years ago, the board of directors of the Foundation approved to create a scholarship fund for graduating high school Prince Georges County resident seniors enrolling in both two-year and four-year colleges and universities.

Initial eligibility guidelines for students include:

  • Those in good academic standing—with at least a 2.5 GPA during their senior year.
  • Those who demonstrate both financial need and academic merit.
  • Those who exhibit leadership ability and community engagement.
  • Those who have the potential to succeed in higher education.

The scholarship funds are to be used for tuition, books, and room/board. Over the past 8 years the Foundation has awarded over 50 students with$500.00 - $1,000 scholarships. Our goal is to increase our support for well deserving incoming college freshman.
