Event description

Description

Please join us for the First Annual Live Like Becca Student Hike through the Middlesex Fells Reservation, the "Fells"! The Live Like Becca Committee has teamed up with "Friends of the Fells" to bring Malden students and surrounding communities together for a hike through the Fells. This walk will be done in honor of Rebecca "Becca" Knight. Becca was 26 years young when she was taken from her family and friends far too soon. Rebecca grew up in Malden and was very involved with the Malden schools and community. She was an avid sports player, but also loved to help clean up parks and walking trails of surrounding communities; she often took in rescue animals to give them better lives than they ever would have had otherwise. Rebecca was an adventurous person who lived life to the fullest and never held back from what she dreamed of doing.

Rebecca was tragically taken from her family and friends three years ago while on a white water rafting trip in Colorado with friends. During the trip, they hit an unexpected rapid which overturned their raft. She was the only one of the four rafters who was unable to make it safely out of the water. Although her death was a shocking tragedy, her friends and family take comfort in knowing that Rebecca passed doing something adventurous, which is the way she always lived her life.

To honor and celebrate Rebecca's life and spirit, the committee hosts annual scholarship nights in her memory, where money raised is given out to three scholarships to deserving Malden High School Seniors every year! Even though we are successful with this scholarship night, we wanted to add another component, a hike for the children of Malden and surrounding communities. The day will start with a hike led by knowledgeable "Friends of the Fells" staff, as well as volunteers from the Live Like Becca organization. The hike will be about 45 minutes and will end with pizza, music, and face painting! Free t-shirts will be provided for the first 50 students to sign up here!

FAQs

Are there minimum age requirements to attend the event?

Students must be 12 years old or older to be able to attend the hike without a parent/guardian walking with them. If a child is under 12 years old, they must have a parent with them during the hike. Whether your child is 5 years old or 17 years old, every parent or guardian must sign a waiver upon arrival.

What are my parking options for the event?

The Greenwood Park is right across the street from the Stone Zoo. The park itself does have some parking but there is also the Stone Zoo across the street with ample parking.

How do I know if I got a free t-shirt?

Someone from the Live Like Becca Committee will contact you to let you know and your name will be on the t-shirt list when you check in! We will have a variety of shirt sizes but definitely get there early so your child can get their preferred size!

Do I (parent/guardian) need to register for a ticket too if I am going to hike?

Yes, we would like an idea of how many people we will have for the hike, but unfortunately t-shirts are only available for the students.

Will there be any Live Like Becca merchandise for adults to purchase?

Yes, we will have a small assortment of Live Like Becca t-shirts as well as Live Like Becca sunglasses for purchase on the day of.

What should we prepare for?

Prepare for a fun morning celebrating an amazing person and keeping her spirit alive doing one of her favorite activities. Make sure you check the weather so that you and your child(ren) are prepared for the day. Definitely bring a water bottle and sunblock if its sunny! Last but not least, wear RED as that is Becca's favorite color and the color we wear when doing events in her honor.

How can I contact the organizer with any more questions?
