Description

Lift Africa presents our first annual Basketball Tournament! Our aim is to effectively allow you to workout, play, etc. with the perspective of knowing that you are giving back! Part of the proceeds of this event will go towards building the infrastructure in Africa (Roads, Buildings, Libraries & Schools). We at Lift Africa understand that there is a strong need to support our countries back home, so this class we have effectively developed our business model to help people get healthy while giving back! All rules MUST be read and understood by each & every player BEFORE game time.

1. The tournament committee makes all final decisions concerning all grievances; i.e. protests, eligibility, etc.

2. The entry fee for each player is $35.00 due by Friday, August 31st. (All payments and rosters due date)

There will be a total of 8 teams that consist of maximum 7 team players and minimum 5 team players (CO-ED encouraged).

4. Teams must have 7 players, minimum 5 players (CO-ED is encouraged not enforced)

5. Competition will be single elimination. Forfeit counts as one game.

6. Rosters must be submitted to the tournament committee mentioned in number 3 above by Friday, August 31st. There will be no adding or deleting team players by the time the first game begins.

7. A team will be charged with a forfeit if it uses an ineligible player that is not on the roster. The team manager is responsible for ensuring the eligibility & signatures of all players on the team. To avoid unnecessary forfeit please allow time before your first scheduled game to make sure the roster is signed by all the players on your team.

8. Destruction or damage of the tournament location will be dealt with by proper authorities. The player and team will pay for damages or will forfeit some or all of their prize money if they were to win the tournament.

9. No player shall play for more than one team during the tournament. If this rule is violated, the player will be eliminated from the tournament and will forfeit their chance at the prize money. Please speak with tournament officials, if teams/participants are seeking substitutes for roster players who become injured, can’t make the tournament, or are in transit.

10. Team captains/managers are the voice of their team and are responsible for their team’s conduct. If any player or spectator appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the tournament committee/game officials have the right to expel them from any game and/or tournament and bar him/her from the gym. The player would lose their right to the prize money. This rule will be strictly enforced.

11. Game Time & Time Outs:

  • Game time = 20 minutes divided into halves of 10 minutes each. 30 minutes divided into halves of 15 minutes each in the Championship game.
  • Time out = 2 time-outs per game, 1 per game half. There will be 1-minute rest/break between game halves. The clock will be stopped for time-outs, which will be 30 seconds in duration. Each timeout will be 1 minute in the Championship game. Half time will be 15-20 minutes long and will occur before the final championship game after the round 2 games.
  • Time will run continuously throughout all calls (out-of-bounds, fouls, etc.), except for the last two minutes of the second half. During the final two minutes of the second half, the clock will be stopped for all fouls and ball out situations.
  • There will be a 5-minute rest/warm-up period between rounds 1 and 2.

12. Each game will start with a jump ball at center court or shoot first, make it first occurrence. Each possession thereafter will be alternated. The official scorekeeper will keep track of the possessions.

13. Teams will be allowed 6 team fouls before entering the bonus free-throw situations.

14. Game time is forfeit time! (A five-minute grace period will be given to late arrivals or unprepared teams).

15. Official scorekeeper must be notified before a substitution can be made, which will be allowed on all dead ball or time-out situations.

16. Players wearing glasses are advised to wear a protector or have shatterproof lenses.

17. Removable jewelry may not be worn during the game, nor hats or headgear that hangs below the collar (officials’ discretion).

18. All players must wear gym shoes while playing.

19. A three point shot rule is in effect. On the line does not count as a three pointer.

20. If you choose to dunk then it is your responsibility to pay for the rim or backboard if it is broken or shattered. The basketball committee will not be held responsible for the damage cost.

21. A flagrant technical foul will result in a player’s dismissal from the current or next game. A player who commits two flagrant technical fouls will be suspended from the tournament and will resulting in forfeiting their prize money if their team happens to win the championship.

22. Fighting by any individual (either on or off the court) will result in the individuals involved being ejected from the game and gymnasium as well as forfeiting their potential prize money if their team happens to win the championship.

23. The officials will only refer to the official scorekeepers and timekeepers of the game at hand.

24. Scorekeepers, timekeepers and/or officials are allowed to give out technical fouls for any taunting, foul language, or misconduct by members of the team or their respective spectators.

25. The team will be held responsible for their fans’ negative comments or actions towards the officials and committee members.

26. Calling any of the officials, timekeepers, scorekeepers, or any member of the basketball committee insulting names will not be tolerated and will result in a technical foul.

27. Only estimated times will be given on the bracket for the game time. In case of forfeit or other circumstances teams are asked to be in the gym at least 30 minutes before the first set of games. Remember, the game time is forfeit time. So again, to avoid necessary forfeits, please be in the gym when it’s your team’s turn to play.

29. If player(s) are under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must sign the release form.

30. Teams cannot have players that are currently playing or have played NCAA Division I or II college basketball in the last 4 years. Teams will be asked to change rosters otherwise will be eliminated from the tournament.
