Event description

Description

Come join us for this great event in which our friends, community leaders, and entrepreneurs can help support the Hispanic Family Foundation while experiencing some of the traditions of the beautiful Mexican holiday, El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

El Dia de Muertos is time for families to celebrate the life and memory of their loved ones, to grieve over their loss, and to ensure that the younger generations remember the lives of the loved ones they never met or were too young to remember. It is a yearly memorial celebration of life and family closeness.

On this day in Mexico, the streets near the cemeteries are filled with decorations of papel picado, flowers, candy calaveras (skeletons and skulls), and parades. In order to celebrate, the families make altars and place ofrendas (offerings) of the deceased’s favorite food such as pan de muertos baked in shapes of skulls and figures. The altars are decorated with candles, incense, and yellow marigolds known as cempazuchitl (also spelled zempasuchil). Most importantly, a photo of the departed soul is placed on the altar along with favorite items such as toys or even shot of tequila.

We look forward to sharing the culture, food and music that makes the Day of the Dead a joyous celebration for all!
