People don't understand mental illness. And they don't want to talk about it. Yet 3 out of 4 Texans have a family member who have experienced a mental health issue, which could include anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia or clinical depression. Suicide is the leading cause of death among college students, but of the 254 counties in Texas, 174 don't have a single psychiatrist or psychologist. Our community could stand a conversation. And so here it is.
Our two guest speakers, Tommy Nelson, Senior Pastor at Denton Bible Church, and Eric Nadel, the "Voice of the Texas Rangers", will highlight our day as they share personal and family mental health struggles.
The conference will bring two community panels on stage with local health care, law enforcement, education, governmental, judicial, veterans and industry professionals. We'll discuss collaborating and taking action. We'll discuss the future of mental health in our area.
The conference is open to consumers and the general public, mental health providers, educators, clergy, first responders, health care providers, government officials, non-profit professionals, foundation members, business community members, workforce professionals, and more.
Lunch and a continental breakfast are complimentary.
