Joseph R. Burian
Joe Burian was a very caring individual. He always looked to help others, he never did it all but he pointed you in the right direction. He had high standards and expected the same in return. He was an inspiration to many. He always want to help and inspire others to stay active and fight. His Rock Steady Boxing group from volunteers, physical therapists were amazed by his fight…he never said “why me?”, instead he used his challenges to fuel him and fight harder making an excellent example to others in his similar situation. Those standards many times were contagious and he could bring a room together for the greater good. While Joe was not a large man by any means, what he did not have in size, he made up with the stature of the kind of person that he was. Joe grew up on the south side of Chicago, to humble beginnings. Joe served his country and that is the main reason we are here to honor him today. From an early age there are stories of Joe providing help and guidance to others. He served in Vietnam to protect his country. While planning the dinner in his honor it was said that Joe would not like to put in the lime light for too long. When you talked to Joe about his military career he said I was just here doing my part no big deal. Well Joe it was a big deal to serve your country and not look for anything in return.
