Event description
This two-hour virtual training course offers an overview to responders on how to respond to electric and hydrogen vehicle incidents.

About this event

One of the greatest challenges facing today's firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical services, tow truck operators, and other personnel who respond and work with automobiles and trucks is vehicular incidents involving alternative fuel vehicles, especially electric, hybrid electric, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The growth of these automotive segments is increasing, putting additional pressure on emergency response to understand their complexities and the additional SOPs they need to adopt to assure "everyone goes home safe."

Sponsored jointly by the Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition, Silicon Valley Clean Cities Coalition, and the Western Riverside Clean Cities Coalition, this course will address the needs of first and second responders on understanding how the vehicles operate, their key components, and how to correctly identify them at the scene of an accident.

Taught by a firefighter instructor, the participants will be able to:

  • Understand basic electrical theory, both Alternating Current and Direct Current
  • Summarize how electric, hybrid electric, and fuel cell vehicles operate
  • Describe the different types of electrified vehicles
  • Outline electric and hydrogen vehicle safety systems
  • Categorize electric vehicle charging appliances and their safety systems
  • Describe hydrogen fueling stations and their safety systems
  • Understand electric and hydrogen vehicle identification techniques
  • List procedures for disabling and immobilizing electric, hybrid, and hydrogen cars
  • Illustrate the firefighter personal protective equipment for AFV response
  • Outline extrication procedures to be used when dealing with entrapments and AFVs
  • Understand fire response and electrified vehicles

We encourage you to attend this important training session to make sure that everyone goes home safe from a vehicular incident involving electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles.
