Event description

Description

Derrick Braziel is one of Forbes' top "30 under 30" social entrepreneurs in America, and the co-founder of MORTAR - a Cincinnati-based organization that helps under-served and under-represented entrepreneurs succeed and build community.

Derrick’s work gives him insight into some of the biggest questions we face today. How can social entrepreneurs build a new economy in politically uncertain times? How can social entrepreneurship empower communities who are normally left out of new development? What tools can people of colour use to level the playing field in a time of growing racial tensions?

Join Derrick Braziel and Adil Dhalla, Executive Director of the Centre for Social Innovation, for a discussion followed by a Q&A.

Derrick Braziel

Derrick Braziel serves as a Founding Partner and Managing Director of MORTAR, an organization dedicated to helping under-represented entrepreneurs in Cincinnati, Ohio. Prior to this work, he co-founded an Indianapolis non-profit named Dreamapolis which continues to support hundreds of Indianapolis entrepreneurs.

Derrick’s work has led to recognition from the Indianapolis Star, YES! Magazine, Next City, Politico, the Stanford Social Innovation Review and NBC Nightly News. He has also been named to Forbes’ 30 under 30 list for Social Entrepreneurs.

He is a member of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber’s C-Change Class 11 and is an Echoing Green and 2016-17 BALLE (Business Alliance for Local Living Economies) Fellow.

Adil Dhalla

In addition to his role at CSI, Adil Chairs the Board for the award-winning social enterprise the StopGap Foundation, and also co-founded Camp Reset, the acclaimed summer camp for adults that exists at the intersection of play and wellness.
