The DC Professional Chapter of Net Impact (DCNI) is pleased to present a special evening:
"A Fireside Chat on the Mindset for Leaders in Sustainability with the Board of Directors of the National Chapter of Net Impact"
WHAT: Join us for a fireside chat with leading sustainability leaders and global Net Impact board members -- Dr. Steve Schein, Kathrin Winkler, and Laura Asiala -- on the mindsets of sustainability leaders and the evolving mission of the field. Gain valuable insight on our objectives as a community and how you can potentially increase influence in the field. We invite you to stay afterwards to network and mingle with our panelists and hear more about their stories.
PLUS: Dr. Steve Schein, Net Impact board member and author of "A New Psychology For Sustainability Leadership", will present a short overview of his new book and will be on-hand to sign copies of the book that will be available for sale.
PLUS: In concert with the event's theme, for those that are considering graduate work in sustainability -- Carrie Hatcher, Assistant Director of Recruitment for Virginia Tech's Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability, will give an overview of the Master of Natural Resources degree programs and will be on-hand to answer questions.

DIRECTIONS: Three blocks west of Ballston Metro Stop (Silver/Orange lines). In the spirit of sustainability, we encourage you to use public transportation. If taking public transportation is not possible, limited street parking is available nearby. There is paid parking in the buildings garage for $5 (entrance around the back).

ABOUT THE HOST: Virginia Tech's Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability (CLiGS) educates, inspires, and empowers professionals to create a better future for people and our planet. To that end, CLiGS delivers the Master of Natural Resources degree which provides interdisciplinary graduate education for professionals interested in environmental conservation and sustainable development.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Steve Schein, Ph.D
Dr. Steve Schein is a sustainability leadership educator, researcher, and executive coach. After 25 years in the corporate world and 10 in academia, he sees the evolution of business leadership and education towards ecological sustainability as a global imperative. To that end, his research focuses on the development of ecological and post-conventional worldviews in the setting of multinational corporate leadership.Dr. Schein's research has been published in The Journal of Corporate Citizenship, The Journal of Management of Global Sustainability, and presented at numerous conferences on corporate social and environmental responsibility. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Net Impact and the GEOS Institute.
He was a member of the faculty at Southern Oregon University from 2005-2015, where he founded the certificate program in sustainability leadership. Prior to joining the faculty at SOU, he was a certified public accountant (CPA) and former CEO with senior management experience in several companies. He holds a PhD in Human Development and Organizational Systems from Fielding Graduate University and a BA in accounting from the University of Colorado.

Kathrin Winkler
Transforming corporate mindsets about Sustainability has been both a personal and professional journey for Kathrin Winkler, who is Senior Vice President, Corporate Sustainability and Chief Sustainability Officer for EMC Corporation. As CSO for the world’s leader in cloud computing, Ms. Winkler provides the vision, strategy and leadership for EMC's global sustainability initiatives. She chairs and collaborates with a virtual cross-functional team comprising EMC's Sustainability Leadership Council to integrate sustainability principles into the corporate culture, the business strategy, and day-to-day operations.Ms. Winkler is a Director of the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE), the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC), and Net Impact, a nonprofit that helps the rising generation use their careers to drive transformational change in the workplace and the world. She also serves on the External Advisory Board of the Graham Sustainability Institute at the University of Michigan. In 2014, she was honored with the Anita Borg Institute 2014 Women of Vision Award for Social Impact in recognition of her contributions to innovation, leadership, and sustainability in the field of information technology.

Laura Asiala
Laura Asiala is the Vice President, Public Affairs at PYXERA Global. Passionate about the power of business to solve-or help solve-the world’s most intransigent problems, she leads the efforts to attract more participation of businesses to contribute to the sustainable development, through their people and their work.Ms. Asiala’s thirty year career in international business include roles in finance, marketing, business development, HR, branding, and communications, and corporate social responsibility. Prior to joining PYXERA Global, she was the Director of Corporate Communications and Corporate Citizenship for the Dow Corning Corporation where she led the development of the company’s international corporate volunteer corps.
In addition to her business experience, Ms. Asiala has significant experience in the not-for-profit sector as well. She is an active board member of Net Impact, a community of more than 100,000 student and professional leaders creating positive social and environmental change in the workplace around the world. She served on the organizing committee for the launch of IMPACT 2030, a private-sector led collaboration with the United Nations mobilizing corporate volunteers around the world. She serves on the Advisory board for Sustainable Entrepreneurship MBA at the University of Vermont.
