IFSTA Fire Inspector 1

About this Event

This course is designed to prepare the learner to meet the requirements of NFPA 1031, Standard for Fire Inspector Qualifications. This course will follow the IFSTA Fire Inspection and Code Enforcement 7th Edition curriculum in addition to other topics selected by the instructor. An IFSAC certification exam and practical will be scheduled upon completion of the course, but is not required.

About the Instructor

Rick Freier has worked for the Spokane Valley Fire Department for 20 years. He’s currently a Firefighter and served as a Fire Investigator for more than 14 years. As a fire investigator for the SVFD he was a commissioned law enforcement office for 9 years and accelerant detection K9 Handler for 5 years. He is a member of the International Association Arson Investigators and IAAI Washington Chapter President. He is an IAAI Certified Fire Investigator and Instructor. He has taught the basic fire investigation course at the Pacific Northwest Fire Investigation Conference, presented at the Fire Protection Institute in Chelan Washington and he presented at the 2017 NFPA Conference in Boston MA. He believes that a fire investigators mission should be to use the information that they learn to prevent fires in the future. He is a certified Fire Inspector and has training in fire protections system and fire prevention programs. Rick is a certified instructor in the management of aggressive behavior and developed a program that was presented to the Spokane Valley Fire Department.
