What is Firaxicon?
Since being founded in 1996, Firaxis Games has produced many strategy game titles and gained millions of fans around the world. Firaxis and 2K would like to celebrate and thank our fans for years of dedication and support, give them a chance to meet the team and learn more about our games – and so Firaxicon was born.
Where is Firaxicon taking place?
Firaxicon is happening at the Embassy Suites Baltimore - North/Hunt Valley, in Cockeysville, Maryland. (Cockeysville, north of Baltimore, is approximately 35m drive from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.) While the Embassy Suites is our official venue, as part of Firaxicon you will also be able to tour Firaxis Games' office nearby.
When is Firaxicon happening?
Firaxicon will officially take place on Saturday, September 27th, 2014 starting at 10am and ending on Sunday morning at 10AM. Effectively, Firaxicon runs for 24 hours straight, although we will only have official events until late evening on Saturday. The gaming area will be open all night for boardgames and PC gaming.
For those arriving on Friday evening we will have an informal reception at the hotel; this is not an official event, but just a casual 'welcome'. Think of it as a chance to meet fellow fans and possibly the odd Firaxis staff member. We expect this reception to happen at approximately 6PM onwards; that time may change closer to the event.
When should I arrive or depart so I don't miss anything?
Official events don't begin until 10AM on Saturday. We'd suggest arriving a little before that time so you can get registered, but as long as you're at the hotel before 10AM, you shouldn't miss anything. (If you arrive Friday night, you may meet fans and possibly Firaxis staff informally, but you won't miss any official events.) Official events wrap up on Saturday night; you're welcome to keep gaming overnight, but you won't miss any official events if you depart after that. Our 'hard stop' for gaming is 10AM on Sunday morning.
Why isn't Firaxicon happening at Firaxis Games itself?
There simply isn't enough space for everyone but you’ll still be able to tour the office!
Are there ID requirements or an age limit for Firaxicon?
There is no age limit to attend Firaxicon, but for legal reasons all minors (under 18) must be accompanied by an adult. We will accommodate young children as best we can wherever possible.
Are there discounted rooms available at the Embassy Suites hotel?
Yes. A limited number of discounted rooms are available, at a rate of $119 per night (before tax).
All rooms within the Embassy Suites are two-room suites. With a private bedroom and separate living area there is room for up to 6 people to share (Double room; King room sleeps 4 max). All suites have a TV in each room, living area with a sofa bed, armchair, work table, wet bar, refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker.
Wifi internet access is included for free as part of the discounted room rate for Firaxicon, along with a complimentary hot breakfast and complimentary evening reception.
With a limited number of rooms available at this rate, we advise to book early. To book visit the Embassy Suites website via this link: http://2kgam.es/FiraxiconRooms
