Event description
The Formerly Incarcerated People's Performance Project (FIPPP) is back!

About this event

***PLEASE NOTE THE MAY 14TH PERFORMACE HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO MAY 27***

Join us this May with new FIPPP workshop performances and a new FIPPP performer at PianoFight Oakland on Friday, May 13 at 8 PM and Saturday, May 14 at 8 PM!

See powerful solo performances by Freddy Lee Johnson, Pamela Ann Keane, Pearl Louise, Al Sasser, & Scott Schell! Directed and produced by Mark Kenward, with co-direction by Rebecca Fisher, Wayne Harris, and Mark McGoldrick, each performance was crafted using improvisation and storytelling techniques with professional theater directors and each performer brings their own unique experience of circumstance, heartache, learning, and redemption to the stage in their own voice.

With the pressing issues of mass incarceration, solitary confinement, reentry, and justice reform on both the local and national agendas, these stories of incarceration and reinvention give an invaluable insight into the conditions in prison, the post-prison experience, and life behind bars for the people who serve time and their families that serve along with them.

After our Friday night performance, we will bring back our popular post-show panel with our performers taking questions from the audience and discussing the realities of incarceration, second chances, and the role of public policy in recidivism.

TICKETS:

At FIPPP, we believe live performance and theater should be accessible to everyone. So we are offering sliding scale priced tickets (from $10-$20) and also have a few generously donated tickets to ensure everyone who wants to join us, can join us. No one will be turned away from the Formerly Incarcerated People's Performance Project's 2022 Summer Workshop Performances due to a lack of funds. We would love to have you in our audience to see these powerful performances.

If you would like to receive one or more free tickets that have been donated by other patrons, please send us an email at soloperformanceconservatory@gmail.com and we will work to get you into the show of your choosing discreetly and confidentially. If you would like to donate a seat for someone who may be short on funds, you can pay it forward by contributing an extra amount when purchasing your ticket.

There is no age minimum for attendance at our festival. However, these stories include frank portrayals of the causes and impacts of incarceration, including descriptions of physical violence, substance abuse, and racial trauma. That said, these stories are rich with humanity, insight, and redemption, and are highly recommended for teenagers and up.

Proof of vaccination is required for entry to the FIPPP Summer Workshop Performances - your vaccination card or a photo of your vaccination card is acceptable.
