Event description

Description

In this workshop, Erik Bergrin will give a glimpse into his practice by talking about the spirituality in his work and why it's important, and then lead participants in a Tibetan visualization meditation called "Feeding Your Demons". Participants will focus on a "demon" of theirs, ie anger, negative feelings towards a relationship, or a specific problem you're having, and personify it in order to engage in a dialogue with it. The goal through this dialogue of becoming the demon, and then an ally, is to show that your problem doesn't have to be something to be afraid of, instead participants can begin to integrate or transform these negative emotions. Participants will also work on creating drawings as a visual reminder of your demons or allys.

Erik is a fiber artist and meditation teacher based out of New York. The philosophy behind his practice is to dive deep into the mind to find exactly what you don't want to be in there and rip it out, leaving only what you want to preserve. His most recent body of work, "Shadowwork," is a story about creating your own mental hell through torturing thoughts. Three of the pieces from that series are on view in the PRIED exhibition at the Society.
