Description

Finding Our Ground in the Groundlessness of Life

A Four-Week Course with Jean Esther

4 Mondays, July 24 - August 14, 7:15-9:00pm

Suggested contribution: $32-48 registration for the series + teacher donation*

(note: Eventbrite will only list the first class date, but all are included when registering.)

As we clear through delusional thinking, we come to greater and greater understanding of what the Buddha referred to as the 3 characteristics of existence: impermanence (anicca), unsatisfactoriness (dukkha), and the absence of a separate self (anatta). Through dharma talks, guided meditation, and group discussion, we will investigate these 3 characteristics as they reveal themselves in our lives. We will also explore how the obstacles to peace that we tend to experience over and over again can become the very pathways to peace itself. Open to experienced and beginning students. This is a core curriculum course.

*Our teachers give freely of their time, wisdom, and experience and depend upon contributions from students for their livelihood. We recommend an equal or greater donation to the teacher than for registration.

Details:

  • We are located in Suite 242 on the second floor in the large mill building, Eastworks, on Pleasant Street in Easthampton, MA. We recommend you park in the West lot near Riff's Restaurant. The stairs are to your right as you enter and the elevator is straight ahead.
  • Please arrive 10-15 minutes early so that you'll have time to check in and find a comfortable seat. We have mats, cushions, blankets and bolsters to make yourself comfortable on the floor, and chairs if the floor doesn't work for you.
  • Dress comfortably and in layers. It's sometimes cool in the morning, but warms up fairly quickly.
  • For day-long retreats there will be a lunch break in the middle of the day. You are welcome to bring a lunch or we suggest Riff’s restaurant which is on the first floor in Eastworks.
  • Teacher dana envelopes will be available when you arrive. Please remember that our teachers are not given any salary from IPV. We follow the ancient tradition of dana where the teachers give their wisdom freely and students give what they can to provide the teacher with a livelihood. For more information about dana go to www.insightpv.org/support-ipv.
  • If you elected to donate at the door we want you to know that we are not able to accept credit cards at this time. We have a very lean operation and do not have paid staff on site for all events. If you would like to donate with a credit card, please choose a donation amount when you register. (You can choose a preset amount (processing fees will be added) or an amount of your choosing (processing fees will be absorbed by IPV.)
  • We've saved you a seat, so please let us know if you will be unable to attend. We will be happy to transfer your donation to any other event or to a general donation. Any donations are 100% tax deductible.
  • Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions or if I can be of further service. We are grateful for your presence and look forward to practicing with you.
