Event description

Description

Category: BODY WORK, CONTEMPLATION

Facilitated by Good Vibes Tribe

What is yoga, exactly? And how can we effectively practice to better care for ourselves?

Join Good Vibes Tribe Cincinnati for a special series of yoga & self-care. During the course of this workshop, we will explore what self-care looks like through the lens of the eight limbs of yoga. We will redefine what it means to have a “yoga body”, peel back the layers that veil our own hidden truths, and examine the powerful effects of community as integral pieces of self-care methodology.

Through the practice of yogic principles & techniques, it is our Tribe’s intention for each participant to have a personalized understanding of the value of self-care and how to integrate it into daily life.

Katie and Jessica, founders of Good Vibes Tribe Cincinnati, are eating disorder survivors who have spent years healing their relationship with their bodies through yoga, meditation, and mindful eating practices. Join them for a 4-week program designed to empower each participant with a greater understanding of his/her body and how it communicates with us.

Katie Wagner graduated from the Ohio State University with a BSBA in Marketing and a minor in French. It was on OSU’s campus where she took her first yoga class and fell in love with the practice. In her late twenties, Katie developed anorexia as a coping mechanism and sought recovery through regular ANAD meetings and a deepened yoga practice. Through the mindful practice of yoga and meditation, she was able to reconnect with her body and find self-love. It was this combination of support and awareness that inspired her to be a voice for the eating disordered community. Currently, Katie is an ANAD support group facilitator and has earned her RYT200. It is her hope to provide a safe space for others to heal from disordered eating and negative body image through their own journeys of self-discovery.

Jessica Smith's personal journey towards recovery from an eating disorder and body dysmorphia have empowered her to connect with others with empathy and authenticity. Yoga has allowed her to view her body as a conduit of strength, and it is her passion to serve others in discovering their own strength through yoga and meditation. Jessica holds a B.S. in Behavioral Science and has years of experience in mental health, substance abuse, group facilitation, and medical social work settings. In addition, she holds a 200RYT that she utilizes in serving as a yoga and mindful meditation facilitator in a prison and juvenile detention center as well as working with female trauma survivors through Project Yoga. It is her goal and life mission to empower others to find their own light within, and to then share their light with others.
