Finding A Way Home: Housing Symposium for Social Service Professionals

The PA LINK to Aging and Disability Resources Delaware County is pleased to host our first Housing Symposium for social service professionals and advocates. This free half-day event will act as a forum to educate and share information regarding best practices in housing from diverse experts in the field.
This Housing Symposium will cater to the interests of new and experienced professionals alike. We want the attendee to leave feeling empowered with resources that can assist our vulnerable populations with gaining access to safe and affordable housing.
9:00a-9:20a Networking and Welcoming Remarks
9:25a-10:10a Eviction Prevention & Process-the best way to reduce homelessness is to prevent it in the first place. An expert panel will discuss tenant rights, the eviction process and how you can advocate for your consumer to prevent an eviction based on code or lease violations.
10:15a- 11:00a Session #1 (Choose A/B)
A) Understanding Homeless Services in Delaware County- many individuals and families are pushed to the brink of homelessness due to unforeseen hardships or limited resources. Come learn about programs and services that cater to housing vulnerable people who need access to emergency placement, rental assistance and permanent housing.
B) Best Practices in Home Sharing: Bringing home sharing to Delaware County?-this panel will feature regional organizations practicing this exciting model. Come and learn about home sharing and exploring ways to bring this affordable housing option to Delaware County.
11:15a-12:00p Session #2 (Choose A/B)
A) Using Fair Housing to Advocate for Your Consumers- learn how to effectively advocate for consumers being denied access to housing on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, and familial status. This session will focus on fair housing laws, reasonable accommodations, illegal discriminatory behavior and national developments in Fair Housing law.
B) Delaware County Housing Primer – have you heard of Low Income Housing Tax Credit or Project Based Subsidies but not known exactly what they are? This introductory session is geared towards those looking to expand their “housing literacy” by learning about the different affordable housing options in Delaware County – from public housing to private housing to County options for those with a behavioral health diagnosis.
