Event description

Description

Many New York City nonprofits are finding it increasingly difficult to secure suitable space and are struggling with the financial, organizational, and legal obstacles of major real estate projects. Beginning in May 2017, the NYCEDC will present a lecture series that empowers New York City nonprofits to successfully engage in leasing and acquisition processes.

Hosted by the NYCEDC at its offices in Lower Manhattan, individual lectures within the series will be given by Paul Wolf of Denham Wolf Real Estate Services and by Brenda Loya of the Nonprofit Finance Fund.

Through attendance at these lectures, participants will gain a fundamental understanding of real estate deal structures, opportunities for financing real estate projects, and proactive methods for preparing to undertake such a project. Real estate fundamentals will be discussed during the first lecture, leasing and acquisition will be discussed in increasing levels of complexity during the second and third lectures, development opportunities will be discussed the fourth lecture, and real estate project financing will be discussed in increasing levels of complexity during the fifth and sixth lectures.

The six lectures are intentionally designed as two distinct three-lecture sets, and the series will provide maximum value to those that attend all three lectures in one of the sets. Specifically, organizations with operating budgets of $5MM or less, little in-house real estate expertise, little staff capacity to devote to a capital project, and little to no experience with capital campaigns and/or with City funding applications are encouraged to attend the lectures on May 10, May 16, and May 31. Organizations with larger operating budgets, in-house real estate expertise, and past experience with complex real estate projects are encouraged to attend the lectures on May 22, May 24, and June 15.
